Federal Reserve System


The Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the United States. To promote the effective operation of the U.S. economy and the public interest by conducing the nation’s monetary policy; promoting the stability of the financial system; promoting the safety and soundness of financial institutions; fostering payment and settlement system safety and efficiency; and promoting consumer protection and community development. The three key entities of FRS: Board of Governors, Federal Reserve Banks, and Federal Open Market Committee.
