Position Specific Description
Senior Project Manager responsible for all aspects of power plant upgrades, improvements, restoration, and demolition (i.e., engineering, purchasing, construction, managing of field supervision/oversight and commissioning). As such, the candidate must have working knowledge of the associated civil, mechanical and electrical/control disciplines (i.e., projects may include underground utilities, foundations, mechanical construction, buildings, balance of plant equipment / systems, electrical and controls). In addition, the position is responsible for driving decisions and developing approaches with a number of internal and external groups (i.e., Engineering Teams / Firms, Business Management, Finance, Tax, Risk Management, Purchasing, Development, Site Operations, etc.). The role is also responsible for evaluating various economic scenarios considering total cost factors (such as revenue loss, parts/inventory, transportation, tax and/or tax credits, cranes, construction method costs, etc.) and meticulously documenting all costs for budget reporting and SOx compliance. The project manger will be responsible for the on-time and on-budget execution of several projects, while maintaining an injury free and environmentally sound work environment and culture.
Candidates require 5-10 years of demonstrated project management experience in the areas of engineering and construction as well as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical). Direct experience with the construction, maintenance and/or operation of power plants is a plus, as is Project Management Certification (PMP), Professional Engineering Licenses (EIT/PE) and/or Six-Sigma Quality Belt Certification.
The position will be based out of our Juno Beach / Palm Beach Gardens office and will require travel to power plants across Florida. The candidate must be able and willing to climb ladders for engineering inspections and quality of work assurance.
Employees in this job are accountable for providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective implementation of assigned and approved capital projects. The position is responsible for establishing a single point of ownership and accountability for non-major maintenance capital projects within FPL or NextEra. Individuals in this role devise standardized PM processes and controls for reporting and contracting practices throughout that ensure compliance with corporate guidelines and terms and conditions that provide a reasonable rate of return, address governmental compliance, cure personnel and property risk issues, and impart high quality and schedule adherence.
