Internal Audit is a provider of independent, objective assurance services delivered through a highly competent and diverse team. As an apprentice with the U.S. Department of Labor Apprenticeship USA program, performs a variety of structured duties, including a combination of on-the-job training, coursework and mentorship, under the supervision of a hiring manager, program manager and a mentor. Apprenticeships are designed to assist in the transition from a military career into the financial industry; facilitates learning of the specific functions required of a Principle Auditor and provides an opportunity to successfully transition into the post-apprentice role. Upon successful completion of the program, the apprentice will have gained proficiency and experience in leadership, program strategy planning and plan execution to assume duties of a fully functioning Principal Auditor.


The Corporate Risk and Capital Management (CRCM) Audit Team provides audit coverage of Independent Testing and Validation, Compliance Risk, Credit Risk, Operational Risk, Strategic Enterprise Risk, Market & Counterparty Risk, Model Risk, Risk Strategy, Planning, and Governance, as well as Chief Risk Officer organizations.


Specific Duties:


  • Works independently and completes assignments on time and within IIA and internal standards. 
  • Leads timely planning and execution of an assigned audit project.
  • Manages projects ranging in size and complexity based upon level of experience.
  • Provides timely reviews and feedback of audit work to audit staff.
  • Ensures documentation and reporting are ready for review by senior managers.
  • Develops and maintains strong business relationships within Audit and with teams across the enterprise.
  • Ensures audit programs and testing are risk-based, and executed according to Audit policies and guidance

 Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with military financial management activities including one or a combination of the following: accounting and pay services, budget preparation and execution, program, cost, and economic analysis, nonappropriated fund oversight, audit management, fiscal law, internal controls and quality assurance
  • 4+ years of military experience
  • 2+ years of leadership experience

Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • In accordance with (the) Military Apprenticeship program specifications, qualifications held by a military apprentice may not meet or exceed 5+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following audit or risk functions: covering risk identification, mitigation and management (includes audit, legal, operational risk, compliance risk, credit risk, market risk, technology risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for risk.)
