The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in Annapolis, Maryland is seeking a full-time Alumni Engagement Officer to join our growing engagement team in support of Alumni Networks, which plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining active connections between members of our alumni community. These networks also provide meaningful engagement opportunities. The Alumni Engagement Officer helps inform Alumni Association programming, identifying opportunities to expand appeal to graduates of the last two decades. This position supports engagement efforts for alumni members including event participation, volunteerism, philanthropy, and other engagement priorities.
This position pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience and is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus of up to 6%, when applicable. This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located in downtown Annapolis, near the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association and Foundation will move into new modern offices in the Alumni Center, which are currently under construction on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

The Primary Roles of this position involve:
Much like a Business Development officer in the commercial sector, creating and cultivating new relationships with alumni of the last two decades will be the primary responsibility.
Creating and supporting efforts to engage young alumni through social media, special events, volunteer programs, philanthropic initiatives, and other engagement priorities.
Participating in broader Enterprise engagement development, representing the interests of young alumni contributing toward all Alumni Association programs or initiatives where young alumni are a part of the target audience.
Working with the Alumni Association office of career services to connect young alumni to career services and mentoring programming where applicable (alumni mentoring, resume support, transition counseling, navigation of SACC & the SACC Job Board).
Build relationships with young alumni in support of broader engagement efforts. Proactively engage and cultivate relationships with alumni who graduated within the past two decades, using independent research with all available resources.
Work with the Shared Interest Group Staff Director to enhance young alumni engagement objectives.
Manage a selection of programs to build young alumni awareness and engagement with Alumni Association programs and services; examples of potential programs include networking events, guest speakers, young alumni meetups, and other alumni engagement events and programming.
Partner with Communications, IT, Engagement and Foundation staffs to execute, iterate upon, and increase the efficacy of assigned programs. Contribute to the ongoing development of and adherence to data-informed frameworks for program creation, development and execution.
Support the Engagement divisions efforts to increase overall alumni engagement
In collaboration with the Engagement Division, help inform programming and inspire young alumni to attend events, volunteer, mentor, donate and engage on social media.
Support communication and membership efforts to encourage younger alumni to update their contact and employment information with the Alumni Association.
Travel, as required to designated target areas to support young alumni engagement programming.
Additional Roles of this position involve:
Supporting the Senior Director of Engagement in the management of the 102 Alumni Chapters and 3 Shared Interest Groups and development of new Alumni groups
Supporting the Senior Director of Engagement in the management of Career Alumni Services Program to include Transition Workshops, Mentoring and Job Placement outreach and programs
Assisting in Membership and the Alumni Services Committee in the oversite of Alumni membership efforts
Assisting in Alumni Engagement and Outreach efforts and events
Collecting and reviewing metrics associated with return on investment to report to Engagement Directors
Working with appropriate enterprise staff (alumni, parents, corporations, and foundations staff) to coordinate Alumni group strategies, programming, activities, and engagement opportunities that foster strong relationships
Bachelor’s degree required; USNA graduate preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and Alumni Association staff.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to motivate others and inspire action
Strong technical skills. Position will require extensive use of relational database software, website development and event management support.

Desire to build and maintain relationships with alumni.
Outgoing personality, comfortable meeting new people.
Travel Commitment: 10 – 15 trips per year, typically on weekends in support of young alumni regional activities.
Willingness to attend evening and weekend events at the Naval Academy, including sporting events, such as Navy football, and academic conferences / lectures.
This position is based in Annapolis and not eligible for full-time telecommuting.
