Our Quantitative Sciences team use big data to analyze the safety and efficacy claims of our potential medical breakthroughs. We review the quality and reliability of clinical studies using deep scientific knowledge, statistical analysis and high-quality data to support decision making in clinical trials.

 

The Research and Development Sciences value team is responsible for enabling data and technology products and services that accelerate our scientists’ ability to discover and develop innovative medicines that change the course of human health.  The scientific data consumption product line enables research wide data and analytics through a a combination of technology, infrastructure, software, and services to support large scale scientific data ingestion, aggregation,  transformation and consumption and comprises of the Scientific Data Platform, Modeling and Machine Learning Platforms, High Performance Computing (HPC) workflows, and “experience” products such as visualization, modeling workbenches, and analytics development environments.

 

The Scientific Data Consumption (SDC) Product Line Lead is responsible for defining, evolving, and executing on the Product Line vision and strategy. The Product Line Leader will also be responsible for developing the overall data strategy and aligned products, working with our business and data engineering teams to bring differentiating value to our customers and business partners. In addition, the product line leader will also be responsible for enabling data modeling & standardization, data access and data governance across the value team in partnership with other product lines.

 

They are responsible for having deep understanding of the key strategic objectives of Research and Development sciences at our Company and of the customers of their product line. Through this understanding, the Product Line lead and team will work closely with these customers to identify and realize opportunities to improve research at our Company.  They ensure alignment of their vision and strategy across the Product Teams and to the other Product Lines. This position is primarily responsible for building and managing effective teams, driving the adoption and continuous improvement of product agile best practice and to deliver highly useable and valuable products to customers. They create an atmosphere of security whilst ensuring individuals are held to high standards and foster a ‘fail fast safely’ culture.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defines the product line vision and strategy in conjunction with partners and value team and ensures strategic alignment across the Product Line

  • Owns all Product Line level discovery activities and the prioritization of problems and opportunities.

  • Act as the product lines chief advocate within the wider organization. And is responsible for all stakeholders being clear on product roadmap, points of contact for demand management and support, priorities, status, support/operations issues.

  • Drives a transparent prioritization process and monitors risks and dependencies across the Product Line

  • Builds and manages a high performing, empowered team and drives team focus on ensuring high customer satisfaction and that this is continuously improving

  • Ensure alignment of the product line outcomes to realize value team targets and to other initiatives influencing the objectives of the product line, such as modernization, our Research & Development Division IT strategy, Enterprise architecture initiatives

  • Coaches others to enhance their Product skills and collaborates with other product leaders to share best practices.

  • Ensure compliance goals are defined and in alignment with organization compliance goals and that metrics are in place to track actual relative to goals.

  • Is responsible for the TCO of the overall Product Line and ensures financial / governance reporting, issue, risk, status communication to all stakeholders is timely, complete and accurate.

  • Partners with engineering management to deliver products that satisfy customer needs

 

Key Deliverables

  • Product Line objectives and key results including input from EIT, our Research & Development Division IT or DPED IT strategy

  • Product Line Roadmap

  • Product Line Marketing Materials

  • Product Line operating model

  • Product Line Vision and Strategy and associated strategies relevant to product line (e.g. Data strategy)

 

Education Minimum:

  • B.Sc. in computer sciences or equivalent field.

  • 10 years working with customers to define and execute data platform strategies

  • 5 years working as a product manager in data and analytics, preferably in the sciences/pharmaceutical industry

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to define, implement and improve data strategy, analytics, and transformation frameworks; sophisticated understanding of various pros/cons and ideal use cases for available tools, and methodologies.

  • Experience leading analytics teams to develop innovative products and solutions that anticipate and meet market needs with respect to functionality, scalability, reliability, implementation.

  • A thought leader who seeks out emerging analytics trends and infuses a spirit of experimentation that amplifies the capabilities of the technology organization.

  • Experience of defining and executing on delivering cloud-based data, analytics and modeling platforms based on strategic goals

  • Experience of working in data and analytics in a large, complex multinational organization

  • Experience of setting up and managing product teams to deliver customer focused data and analytics products

  • Proven team leader with ability to build high performing teams

  • Strong experience of working with agile methodologies and focus on value delivery

  • Knowledge of and experience with executing FAIR or other data governance standards at scale

  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships that help to truly define the problems and opportunities to solve them

  • Passionate and knowledgeable about how modern cloud-based technologies can unlock the power of data

  • Strong written, verbal communications and analytical problem-solving skills

 

Preferred:

  • Pharmaceutical drug discovery and pre-clinical development experience
