Description:

The Research and Development Sciences (RaDS) value team in R&D IT brings together product management, engineering, and data science expertise to enable data and technology products and services that accelerate our scientists' ability to discover and develop innovative medicines that change the course of human health. Our IT team operates as a business partner proposing ideas and innovative solutions that enable new organizational capabilities.

As the Technical lead of the Composition of Matter (CoM) Characterize Product you will plan and execute projects involving the suite of applications that collectively allow scientists to efficiently characterize chemical and biological modalities to determine their identify, quality, composition, and physical characteristics in support of the research & development pipeline.

 

This will be accomplished through cross-functional teams that bring together science, technologies, capabilities, and talent to create products that deliver high impact business value, insight, and a fantastic user experience to scientists. Through your role, you will help define the standard of excellence in product management in our organization. Additionally, you will be accountable for identifying opportunities to grow and improve the product while simultaneously ensuring consistent performance of existing applications in the product. You will use your knowledge of these products to promote their meaningful use by giving product demos, sharing user stories, and showing the connection of our data and technology products to our mission to serve patients. The ideal candidate will:

 

Primary Tasks:

  • The ideal candidate will act as the single technical point of contact for “Characterize” product who will manage the product technology roadmap, someone with strong architecture alignment of application landscape under the product line.

  • Enable scientists to efficiently characterize & manage analytical data for any modality or formulation of composition of matter with respect to its intrinsic composition, quality, structure, and biophysical properties.

  • Proactively seek to understand technology trends, vendor marketplace and upcoming business needs to guide product teams on providing forward looking technology solutions.

  • Will be accountable for managing a team of technical leads, technical analyst assigned to specific squads and own the technology solution from concept to retirement.

  • Will be the technical product owner who will own and prioritize new features/enhancements of the “Characterize” product and working along with the Product Manager

  • Be highly collaborative in working with both business stakeholders and IT partners to understand business requirements and translate to high quality solutions.

  • Work with with the Product Owner / Scrum Masters to develop project plans with clearly defined timelines and business outcomes, implement necessary risk mitigation strategies, and lead project execution.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory safety, GMP and Validation requirements. Ensure all systems are designed, built, and operated to full SDLC requirements.

  • Work strategically and independently with internal and external groups.

  • Define scientific and user requirements for new systems and system enhancements.

  • Lead our company's staff, contractors and vendors through influence and clear vision.

  • Promote the effective use of IT standards and tools, while embracing the acute needs of a competitive research environment.

  • Influence strategic thinking to advance technology in support of improved operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Develop and communicate accurate resource estimates and timelines.

  • Drive effective business governance of projects and post implementation oversight of applications.

  • Apply appropriate financial concepts (e.g. ROI, Cost/Benefit) to determine business implications of technology decisions.

  • Facilitate meetings with business colleagues on IT strategy, governance, and other topics.

 

Education Minimum:

  • B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in a scientific or technical discipline (such as computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, etc.). Pharmaceutical experience highly preferred but not mandatory.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 8+ years in IT with ability to architect, engineer, optimize and maintain software solutions to solve complex scientific problems.

  • Strong domain expertise in the application of IT to efficiently manage analysis methods, impurities, & results to characterize CoM for intended use

  • Worked with Engineering, Product Management teams initiating and driving large scale strategic initiatives.

  • Demonstrate experience in one or more programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Scala, Ruby, PL/SQL and implementing COTS applications.

  • Experience with Cloud technologies will be added advantage, but not mandatory.

  • Hands-on experience in database development with efficient SQL, performance tuning and debugging skills

  • Awareness of current industry trends in science and/or technology used to aid the manufacture and/or characterization of pharmaceutical materials

  • Demonstrate strategic thinking skills and an eagerness to learn scientific processes, drug discovery and development processes, regulatory requirements as necessary to solve problems

  • Ability to work independently, asynchronously (across time zones) and with excellent communication skills that cross culture/geographic/organizational boundaries

  • Record of working in a team of multidisciplinary scientists and IT personnel and operating effectively with cross functional teams.

  • Strong communication skills with ability to align a team / squad on complex technical or strategic decisions.

  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills, along with good problem-solving skills, ability to work in matrixed environments

  • Worked with Jira, Jira Align, Workboard, and Agile methodologies (scrum, Kanban etc.)

  • Has supported IT applications in formulation, packaging, and/or distribution of GxP clinical or commercial pharmaceutical drug products is preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Travel may be necessary to Rahway, N.J. and/or West Point, P.A. plants post COVID restrictions or as project demands.
