Legal Counsel

Based in McHenry, IL

Medela LLC is adding a Legal Counsel to their team. You will play an active role in US legal matters and will actively work in close collaboration with the rest of the legal department and the business as a trusted colleague.

 

Your Experience

·        You have a minimum of 6 years of PQE (post-qualified experience), preferably consisting of a combination of in-house experience plus time with a leading international or national law firm

·        You are experienced in advising clients in commercial law matters

·        You have strong experience in contract negotiation

·        You possess litigation and/or compliance experience

·        You are known for your strong people skills, high degree of empathy, maturity, energy and emotional intelligence

The Legal Counsel will work a few days in the McHenry, IL office each week and a couple of days remote.

Education and Critical Skills/Experience – Legal Counsel

·        Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school required

·        Member, Illinois bar preferred; other U.S. bar memberships will be considered

·        A minimum of 6 years of PQE (post-qualified experience), preferably consisting of a combination of in-house experience plus time with a leading international or national law firm

·        Experience advising clients in commercial law matters

·        Contract negotiation experience required

·        Litigation and/or compliance experience strongly preferred

·        Strong people skills with a high degree of empathy, maturity, energy and emotional intelligence

·        High degree of reliability and judgment; high ethical and professional standards

·        Proven ability to think creatively in order to find legally valid solutions to difficult business issues

·        Proven ability to take direction and collaboratively work with many different stakeholders ensuring that the legal function is considered to be approachable by internal stakeholders; at ease in a multi-cultural environment

·        Clear and concise written and oral communications skills; ability to summarize complex issues in simple, easily understood terms both orally and in writing

·        Strong ability to read and interpret case law, statutes, regulations and contractual language.

·        Ability to work effectively independently as well as in teams required

 

 

Main Responsibilities – Legal Counsel

·        Play an active role in US legal matters and will actively work in close collaboration with the rest of the legal department and the business as a trusted colleague

·        Generates own “business” internally by forging relationships with business colleagues, seeking out opportunities to add value and proactively contributing to company goals as a trusted legal advisor 

·        Provide support on commercial agreements and other company documents, including drafting and negotiating NDAs, customer, supplier and technology contracts

·        Perform internal and external due diligence and legal research as required

·        Draft formal or informal memoranda of law as required

·        Provide proactive counsel on ramifications of day-to-day business decisions

·        Monitor and stay apprised of legal developments in assigned areas affecting the company

·        Act as local compliance officer, data privacy contact person and other assigned roles pursuant to Olle Larsson Holding Code of Conduct compliance program

·        Responsible for the preparation and presentation of relevant local education and training materials to improve compliance and legal and business risk management

·        Support sister and parent companies in U.S. legal matters where appropriate 

·        Reports to General Counsel, Americas
