The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting Vicinity’s district energy business by providing oversight and execution of capital projects and supporting day-to-day operations and maintenance managers. This is a full-time, exempt, non-union position. This position reports to the Engineering Director and is located in Boston, Massachusetts.

ResponsibilitiesÂ
Â
• Provide oversight of project management process, and directly manage significant capital projects and/ or repair activities in support of regional district steam system operationsÂ
• Manages all internal and consultant engineering functions, project implementation and execution of specified Base Business projects.Â
• Prepares and administers the Operations Department capital budget and oversees associated projectsÂ
• Approves all drawings and specifications associated with capital and repair projects in the Operations Department.Â
• Initiates and maintains close working relationships with appropriate state and local permitting agencies, regulatory agencies, vendors, A&E community, legal community, construction industry, and other sectors of the community as appropriate and needed. May need to attend regular construction meetings with city and other local projects for utility coordination.
• Oversee the development of the RFP’s, scope of work, technical specifications, procurement process, and budget for capital projects and/ or repair activities, and the day-to-day management of the sameÂ
• Provide customer contract technical review and feasibility during renewal and new business negotiationsÂ
• Provide technical expertise or manage oversight for steam system modeling programs for pipe stressÂ
• Act as regional technical expert to assists site management and contractor personnel, and interface with corporate engineering, review submittals from external projects, provide guidance and oversight to these outside projects affecting the Vicinity distribution system.
• Provide engineered solutions to site safety committee and management team for regional safety issuesÂ
• Update and maintain current drawing files for any changes to steam distribution system, both PDF and AutoCAD.

Qualifications and Experience
Â
• Must have a BS degree or higher, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering. PE qualification desired but not required.Â
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with civil/mechanical construction management, plant operations and/or engineering support. May include district energy, power plants, cogeneration facility operations or other thermal energy based operations.Â
• Must possess a working knowledge of thermal energy systems and piping distribution systems.Â
• Must possess excellent analytical, computer and communication skills, including knowledge of AutoCAD.

• Standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating, working from elevated platforms, scaffolding or ladders, required to lift 50 pounds and maneuver 100 pounds.
• Must submit to a company provided physical and drug screening.
• Must qualify to wear a respirator.
• Ability to tolerate confined spaces, including manholes and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• Exposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty/dirty environment.
• Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection.
