What You Will Do
Special Security IT & Cyber Operations group (SSO-3) manages several classified networks, and provides desktop, server, and network support and services to the LANL Field Intelligence Element (FIE).
We are seeking an experienced cyber security professional to join our team as an Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM). The Cyber Security Team plans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to network and IT systems, including system security plan management, continuous monitoring, and COMSEC.
Your leadership and management skills will be utilized to ensure compliance with multiple frameworks of cybersecurity. Personal initiative, dynamic problem solving skills, as well as leadership of a diverse team will be necessary for success at this level. Independent refinement of cybersecurity requirements into information technology components and systems through design and configuration. Creation of risk management plans, review of security controls, instituting security protocols, enforcement of cybersecurity policies and running ensuring continuous monitoring of systems will be expected. Communication skills are a must, as is a forward looking and thinking attitude.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Proven expertise in evaluating new tools, researches exploitation methods and techniques, and proposes effective solutions to cyber security issues. Expert knowledge of classic and contemporary cyber threats and vulnerabilities and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: computer science, information security, information assurance, or cyber security. Understanding of industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to cyber security.
Expertise or certified training in cyber incident response and continuous monitoring of various information systems
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex IT technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences. Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and communicate mission accomplishments, cyber methodologies, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Demonstrated success in taking initiative and implementing process improvements. Proven experience leading effective teams. Proven effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to obtain a DOE Q and TS/SCI Clearance which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field and a minimum of 12 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level post graduate work may be expected.
- Advanced knowledge of institutional tools/technologies and their various applications
- Advanced knowledge of DOE-IN and/or DOD and national policies related to information assurance
- Technical knowledge of networking technologies and concepts
- Experience with IT/cyber audits and assessments
- Experience with COMSEC and TEMPEST
- CISSP is highly desired, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications.
- Active DOE Q and TS/SCI Clearance.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
