What is the SACC?
SACC is the Service Academy
Career Conference supported and endorsed by the Alumni Associations
from the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the Associations
of Graduates from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and the
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
How many Companies & Candidates attend?
SACC is held four times annually.
The Washington, DC conference is our flagship event with more than 500 candidates and over 100
companies. We host a west coast SACC every
August in San Diego or Seattle, and a southwest SACC each
fall in Texas, where typically 200-300 candidates and 50-60
companies participate. Savannah, GA is the newest SACC addition for the 2008 schedule.
Who is eligible to attend SACC?
SACC Candidates are exclusively
service academy graduates who are making career transitions after their
military obligation, as well as alumni who are simply making a career change.
These individuals range in experience from junior military officers to senior
officers. The company recruiters attending the SACC come
prepared to interview the full range of candidates.
What companies attend the SACC?
SACC Companies are typically
top-flight firms in corporate America specifically interested in hiring
service academy graduates for their sense of honor, ethics and leadership skills.
To view the current list of companies attending the next SACC,
go to the main SACC page, select the SACC in
which you are interested, and click on the Companies Attending link.
What is the Interview Prep Seminar?
Please plan to attend the informative SACC Interview
Prep Seminar on Thursday evening – no registration is required, and the
attire is casual. This is an interactive seminar between the candidates and
a panel of company recruiters who will provide career advice, and answer questions
from the audience. The panel discussion will include topics such as what companies
look for in academy grads, what to expect in an interview, how to negotiate
salary, resume writing tips, and so much more. A brief overview of the SACC career
fair on Friday will also be presented.
What is the SACC Program for Friday?
The actual career fair is on Friday – please dress as you would
for an interview. Each company has a table and you are free to visit with any
or all of the companies. There are no pre-arranged interviews at SACC,
however as you meet with recruiters at their tables, they are evaluating your
skill sets and essentially interviewing you. If a company recruiter wishes
to meet with you privately they will coordinate that with you directly upon
meeting you. Some companies will interview at SACC and
others do not.
Although the companies receive a resume book of all pre-registered SACC candidates, we recommend that you bring 50 copies of your resume with you to the conference. The resume you bring may be a multiple page version if you prefer. As you meet and speak with the many recruiters, you may find it helpful to provide them with a resume to view immediately.
If you receive an "Interest Slip" behind your name badge at registration on Friday, that simply means that a company reviewed your resume and would like you to stop by their table – it is not an interview. Companies will continue to post Interest Slips throughout the day, so please check the SACC message board before you depart.
